Hijos de Montezuma—SDSU’s 1st Spanish Language Sports Podcast
For over 25 years in the State of Texas, where football is a religion, Spanish language broadcasts have been thriving on both television and radio. And not just for border cities in the south. Both the University of Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies have their football brands represented towards the millions of Spanish speakers all over the Southwest.
‘Today, San Diego State’s representation is enlarging it’s footprint into the Spanish speaking demographic by the Sons of Montezuma’s newest sports podcast creation, Hijos de Montezuma.
The Hijos are a bilingual Spanish to English episodic show, affiliated under the Sons of Montezuma brand. The show’s goal is to broaden SDSU brand awareness both in the Southwestern side of the United States and across neighboring border city Tijuana, B.C. Mexico.
With San Diego’s already top-10 population nationwide, dipping into the sports market in Mexico is a no brainer for SoM.
In Tijuana, sports gambling and the love for futból Americano is the fastest growing sport in the country. For Latin American fans of most sports, the passion and dedication towards their teams is unmatched.
Fun is the driving force. To make each game, each episode, each opportunity a celebration. For SDSU the outreach has always been about more than sports. San Diego State has taken steps to invest into Mexico becoming a bi-National University with their recently unveiled Mesoamerican Center in Oaxaca.
For a stronger connection to the campus life on the Mesa, Hijos de Montezuma provides insights into the Aztecs sporting events and outcomes. Host Cheke is joined by Aztecs 4 Life, Jorge, Andrew ‘El Chino’ and Oscar ‘Big-O’ for their recaps of the games and their predictions of the next opponents.
We hope you enjoy their fun, sports entertainment stories of learning about the teams and that you share with other potential Spanish speaking fans looking for a new and exciting way to represent their city & region. Vamanos Raza…Vamanos Aztecas!
