Two more days until the official NCAA transfer portal opens on January 2nd, 2026 and boy are we firing on all cylinders unfortunately. We’ve already posted our first transfer portal update here. Below we give the official list of who is transferring out of the SDSU program, as compiled through 247.com and individual players announcements via social media most times.
So far the tally is at five defensive players, two offensive, and one special teamer. Here are the latest:
EDGE Ryan Henderson
NEW: San Diego State EDGE Ryan Henderson plans to enter the transfer portal, his rep @kylelogan2221 tells @PeteNakos.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound pass rusher has 12.5 career TFLs and 10.5 sacks with a forced fumble. https://t.co/p0t8p0JJhk pic.twitter.com/zlzGY1VE8M
Late Tuesday afternoon the latest news broke of another Aztecs defender headed to the portal when Ryan Henderson announced he was on his way out. The 6’3″ 250 lb defensive edge rusher out of Canyon Springs High in Las Vegas, Nevada is finishing up his junior season in the red & black.
Initially passing up offers from Arizona, Henderson committed to San Diego State under the Brady Hoke coaching regime and has spent four seasons, including a redshirt freshman year, as he developed his skillset in the Aztecs defense.
Henderson was a consistent pass rusher for the Aztecs last season collecting 7 sacks, which put him tied for most on the team along with Trey White and Niles King. The move was somewhat unexpected seeing as though Trey White has yet to announce his decision on his future.
The opportunity for a special senior season, with or without White on the line again, would certainly help Henderson’s production and draft status. With White on the line alongside him Henderson would be a big part of a very skilled and dominant edge unit. Without White, Henderson would have a big opportunity to be the focal point player coming into the 2026 season.
Certainly there must be a specific suitor out there ready to nab Henderson up with some hefty NIL cash to make his decision feel worthwhile. Now with Henderson’s departure it puts the SDSU defense in an even more precarious situation taking a ding against it’s remaining experience on that side of the ball.
DB DWAYNE MCDOUGLE
San Diego State safety Dwayne McDougle is entering the transfer portal, a source tells @CBSSports.

Posted four interceptions this season. Also had 51 tackles and the second-best PFF run defense grade among Mountain West safeties. pic.twitter.com/vJXj8zaDVh
Dwayne McDougle had himself a very nice year for the Aztecs. Maybe the most unnassuming of defensive backs coming into the season, McDougle finished 4th on the defense in tackles with 55 just a few behind linebackers Mister Williams and Owen Chambliss.
Also adding to McDougle’s season was his 4 big interceptions which tied Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, Chris Johnson. Not to be forgotten is 1 forced fumble & recovery and you realize this loss really stings.
McDougle would’ve been counted on as a senior in the Aztecs defense and now he will be looking for his fourth different team in his college career having already played at Northern Arizona, Idaho State and SDSU.
WR Mikey Welsh
Mikey Welsh was a feel good walk on story of the season. Earning his spot on the roster was a good decision by the SDSU coaching staff as Welsh had some nice moments throughout the season. He played in 12 games, recorded 12 receptions for food for 4th on the team. He even chipped in on punt return duties when fellow WR Jordan Napier went down with a season ending injury.

WR MARCUS MOZER
Marcus Mozer becomes the 2nd wide receiver to exit the program. Mozier is an impressive athletic looking talent out of Fort Collins, Colorado and appeared to have some potential moments in fall camp.
It is unclear the reasons for the departure if it was a mutual decision to move on from Mozer or if perhaps other reasons for his decision to enter the portal. Either way, if all other projected starters return to the Mesa (Napier, Bostick, Brown) there may not have been a clear path towards starting opportunity for Mozer. Naturally, the hope Aztec Nation has is that those mentioned returning starters officially return to the Aztecs.
SDSU Football Players Expected to enter the transfer portal on January 2, 2026.
