San Diego State 17-3 (11-0) vs Grand Canyon 8-14 (7-5) – The game takes place on Wednesday, February 4 with a tip-off scheduled for 5pm PST. Watch the game on the Mountain West Network.
As San Diego State’s women’s basketball team heads to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon University Wednesday evening, the matchup carries plenty of storylines for Aztecs fans and Mountain West hoops heads alike.
First off this women’s team is absolutely ballin’ right now.
The Aztecs bring a 13-game winning streak into this game, riding one of the best starts in program history and looking to stay undefeated in conference play. A clear two games ahead of the usual conference queens UNLV, the Aztecs are looking to do something even more impressive by adding to that distance.
One player who could be pivotal for SDSU is #24 Naomi Panganiban, the Aztecs’ leading scorer. She’s been consistently putting up around 13–14 points per game this season while contributing across the stat sheet.
Giving San Diego State a versatile offensive weapon to lean on in key moments, there isn’t a shot out of possibility for the young San Diego native. Her near half-court shot last weekend vs Nevada showed proof of the confidence she is currently playing with. Not to mention all the social media love for hitting a shot like that. to

But don’t sleep on Grand Canyon in this game. While Naomi has been steady, it will take a full team effort to continue this ride. Big contributions by both #10 Nat Martinez and #14 Nala Williams both averaging 10 points per game respectively.
On the other side, #0 Chloe Mann has emerged as a go-to option for the Lopes, averaging about 13 points per game and providing playmaking and scoring punch for Grand Canyon. Her ability to create offense will be crucial if GCU hopes to slow down the Aztecs’ momentum.
Overall the Aztecs’ reflect balance and efficiency: they rank better nationally in field-goal percentage and, importantly, limit opponents’ shooting while taking care of the ball at a high rate compared with Grand Canyon’s turnover struggles.
SDSU sits atop the Mountain West but they’ve been challenged at times. This contest could be yet another test of their consistency of facing everyone’s best shot as tournament season draws closer.
