Our next SDSU/NFL Draft Prospect we take aim at is none other than the hard-hitting safety Trenton Thompson. Throughout his whole Aztecs career, Trenton just made plays. Special teams plays, defensive plays—it did not matter, Trenton was in the middle of it. Coach C is very high on Trenton and all that he brought to perhaps the greatest Aztecs defense in SDSU history.

Coach C: As I watch Trenton’s video, this is a 6’2″ kid who is long and he’s not afraid to hit you—to put it in your head receiver—that I gotta know where 18 is at. He reminds me of Anthony Dorsett who played in Pittsburgh—Tony Dorsett’s son. He had some hit & misses in the secondary, but where he made his money was in the special teams. He was a notorious and incredible special teams player because of the punt blocks, because of the field goal blocks. He was huge on that and it prolonged his NFL career.
I’m watching Trenton Thompson and I’m telling you what, this kid is going to do everything he can to make a squad and there’s going to be some special teams coach in April that’s going to be pounding their table when he gets to a certain round in this draft. And if he’s still available their gonna want this kid because he is a change maker! He’s a kid that’s going to flip the field because he’s going to get that key block and it’s beautiful!

It’s so hard for defensive backs now days. They have to play with so much cautiousness. I understand why the league is doing it at all levels, we don’t want to see anyone get hurt. But when it comes to players of his caliber that have the ability to enforce a little bit of his presence to make anyone think twice before coming on the field, every defense needs that and he stood out on a GREAT defensive unit and that says something. That really says something because we were full of a bunch of hunters on this Aztecs defense. He definitely was one of the main guys that knew how to finish one and establish his presence on the football field.
He’s going to make his money simply because he’s long and he’s willing. Huge for a guy that says I’m willing to say, I’ll play special teams on both sides.
