San Diego State Aztecs linebacker Mister Williams enters the 2025 season as a seasoned transfer portal addition to the team’s defense. He also just so happens to have one of the best names in all college football. I mean, Mister? Now that name just demands respect from the start.

Standing at 6’0″ and weighing 245 pounds, the Canoga Park, California native brings a blend of experience, athleticism, and leadership to the Aztecs after transferring from the University of the Incarnate Word.

Williams experience at Incarnate Word has equipped him with a diverse skill set that he brings to the Aztecs’ defense. He has a solid build and plays an aggressive style of linebacker. At least that is what Williams is known for—and that’s what the Aztecs defense needs more of.

In 2024 playing in 14 games for the Cardinals, Williams racked up 78 total tackles (26 solo, 52 assists). He had 13 tackles for loss and four sacks to go along with five forced fumbles and a fumble recovery and an interception, according to Incarnate Word’s athletic stats. It was a performance good enough to be named to the All-Conference Second Team.

His tackling ability and physical presence on the field is his strength and his technique has made him a formidable opponent against both the run and pass. In his time at FCS Incarnate Word, his Cardinals even beat a lowly winless Nevada Wolfpack team that not even the Aztecs could defeat.

As a senior transfer, Williams brings leadership qualities and a veteran mindset to the team. His experience and work ethic set a positive example for younger players and contribute to the overall cohesion of the defense. Adjusting to San Diego State’s defensive schemes and terminology may present initial challenges. Building chemistry with new teammates and understanding the nuances of the Aztecs’ defense will be crucial for his transition and eventual increased playing time.

Maintaining consistent performance throughout the season will be key for Williams. Focusing on discipline and minimizing mental errors will enhance his effectiveness on the field. To what amount of playing time Williams can earn is questionable, but a definite X-factor he can be if those numbers he put up at Incarnate Word can translate into a few game-changing plays at the right time for the Aztecs.

No matter the amount of snaps, Williams is expected to play a significant role in the Aztecs’ linebacker corps, bringing experience and physicality to the defense. His versatility allows him to contribute in various packages and situations, making him a valuable asset as San Diego State aims to strengthen its defensive unit.

If Mister Williams can earn the respect that his name sets him up to do, his combination of experience, athleticism, and leadership should position him as a possible key contributor to the Aztecs’ defense in 2025.

  1. Great write-ups on key Aztecs for the 2025 season. A lot of FCS talent, but maybe they’re diamonds in the rough, who will make the FBS transition smoothly.
