FRESNO — San Diego State delivered a commanding performance Saturday night, shutting out their rival Fresno State 23–0 in front of a stunned Valley crowd. The victory not only marked the Aztecs’ sixth win of the season but also cemented their place among the Mountain West’s elite under head coach Sean Lewis.

From the opening drive, the Aztecs controlled the line of scrimmage. The Aztecs came into the game ready to set the tone and it was RB Lucky Sutton with a punishing ground game, racking up 131 yards and a first-quarter touchdown on 21 carries, who did just that. His one-yard score capped a 92-yard drive that showcased San Diego State’s balance and physicality up front.

QB Jayden Denegal managed the offense efficiently, completing 11 of 19 passes for 124 yards while adding 30 more on the ground. Though he threw a red-zone interception in the second quarter, Denegal’s poise helped sustain drives and set up three field goals from Gabriel Plascencia, including a 50-yarder late in the third quarter.

The Aztecs’ defense was the true story of the night. Fresno State was held to just 227 total yards, including a mere 45 rushing yards, and failed to record a play longer than 15 yards all game. Linebacker Tano Letuli punctuated the defensive dominance with a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, sealing the shutout and sending Bulldog fans to the exits early.

Fresno State’s offense, led by freshman quarterback Carson Conklin in his first start, never found a rhythm. Conklin finished with two interceptions and endured constant pressure from the Aztecs’ front seven.

For San Diego State, the 23–0 win represents more than just another rivalry triumph—it’s a statement about the team’s identity. The Aztecs improved to 6–1 overall and 3–0 in Mountain West play, positioning themselves firmly in the conference title race. Fresno State, meanwhile, fell to 5–3 (2–2 MW) and will have to regroup quickly after one of its most lopsided home losses in recent memory.

San Diego State now returns home next week looking to keep its momentum rolling, while Fresno State searches for answers on both sides of the ball after being blanked for the first time in over a decade.
