San Diego State received two giant re-commitments to their football program Monday afternoon when both RB Lucky Sutton and OL Joe Borjon via social media posted their intention to Finish the Climb.
Lucky Sutton

Lucky Sutton had his best season to date racking up a Mountain West Conference leading 1,237 rushing yards on 239 carries (5.2 Yds/Att), and scoring 10 touchdowns. The junior RB was the focal point of an offense that struggled in the passing game and still did not deter his production.
Let’s just be frank—the Aztecs needed to resign Lucky Sutton. With Sutton you have stability in the backfield as the clear bell-cow back, a big physical runner that each defense will continue to game plan for as #1 objective to stop when they play SDSU.
That won’t change in 2026 and now the program can really build some momentum building the offense through the portal and retaining players around Sutton. If fellow senior and local RB Christian Washington can also return in 2026, look for the SDSU run game to once again be the straw that stirs the Aztecs drink.
Lastly, if the SDSU program is going to continue to rebuild relationships and create bonds with the San Diego community and it’s fans, they’re going to need to be all in on Sutton and then pray they can get lucky—pun intended.
Sutton offers a local tie and an opportunity to build a real campaign around him similar to what we saw with previous great Aztecs backs in the local and regional media. Can the program do it? This is the first step and most important.
Joe Borjon

Joe Borjon the team’s starting offensive left tackle was a big component for that success as well. The 6’8″ 338 pound big man helped revitalize the Aztecs ground game, from ranking 55th in the 2024 season to 29th nationally in the 2025 season.
For their sake it was crucial to retain Borjon’s presence on the line, as the unit will see a big overhaul in 2026. Several of the starters and even some reserves such as Ross Ulugalu-Maseuli, Christian Jones, Saipale Fuimaono, and Bayo Kannike all will depart through graduation.
Borjon will now place his name on many pre season watch lists. The addition of his younger brother Brian Borjon as an official freshman to the 2026 class also should make the new year even more special.
With a few of the younger lineman making big steps next year and perhaps a portal signing or two, the offensive live can continue to build the passing game protection up to Coach Lewis’ standard.
With the team’s appearance in the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday, and the transfer portal just over a week away, these two commitments carry a ton of currency for the offense that could be the difference when the NIL and revenue sharing totals need a boost.
