Amid all the transfer portal exits for SDSU this transfer portal season, good news made it’s way around Aztec Nation when on Friday, WR Jordan Napier announced he was returning to the Mesa in 2026.

Napier finished his 2025 season with 48 catches for 629 yards and 2 TDs. His rushing TD vs Wyoming and punt return TD vs Nevada added to his total showing his versatility in playmaking.

The jury was out on if Napier would return to SDSU for another season despite having undergone season ending knee surgery. Napier was undercut on a tackle during an errant throw his direction against Boise State in November and it sidelined him the rest of the way.

But you never can tell in this college football climate. Napier had been well on his way to showcasing his skillset towards earning accolades on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. That award hadn’t seen an Aztec earn that attention since WR Ezell Ruffin back in the 2013.

The road for Napier is one of recovery to get back and beyond where he left off. His retainment tends to lead that the SDSU offense is gearing up for a big year. The experience held by all the returning players on that side of the ball is similar to what the defense held just a year ago, before their national breakout campaign.

With Napier, Bostick, and Brown at the receiver spots, Jayden Denegal will have plenty of targets that he is familiar with to throw to. The return of RBs Lucky Sutton and Christian Washington in the backfield solidifies the ground game.

The offensive line has a bigger task ahead of matching those other units—though not completely daunting. Especially considering the return of Joe Borjon and Kalan Ellis to anchor the guard and tackle spots.

For Napier the chance to rehab, continue in the offense that has focused many touches to him in various matchups and situations had to be a big selling point to return. Napier has only played college football at San Diego State and that is something to build on when creating his profile for being a football star here in Southern California.

If he can prove he is back, it will go a long ways towards elevating himself towards next his 2027 season, which would be his senior year and of course the ultimate goal in the professional ranks.
