Below we give the official list of who is transferring IN to the SDSU program, as compiled through 247.com and individual players announcements via social media and SDSU Football official.

The Aztecs set their sights on the Quarterback position Monday afternoon when news broke of Kentucky transfer QB Stone Saunders was packing his bags from the bluegrass of Lexington and headed for Southern California’s sandy beaches.

Saunders comes to SDSU after redshirting his freshman season at Kentucky and will have four years of eligibility. A 3-star class 2025 recruit, Saunders signed with Kentucky while holding scholarship offers from Louisville, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Miami, Nebraska, and Michigan, among many others.

The Wildcats just ended their run with Coach Mark Stoops after back to back seasons missing a bowl game. In his place they’ve brought in Will Stein, a new offensive mind to take over the Wildcats. This was the ideal time for Saunders to make an exit and look for a team that would value his specific abilities and give him a real shot.

Saunders comes in measuring at 6’1″ and 222 lbs. as listed on 247.com. Out of Bishop McDevitt high school in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Saunders was rated a high 3-star recruit when he made his commitment to the Wildcats.

Of course at the QB position, if you don’t get a few starts early on the shine of that ranking wears off quickly like a new car off the lot. Now just one year removed it will be interesting to see the skillset he truly possesses at the position and what it can mean for his time at SDSU.

Saunders doesn’t have the biggest frame but being the son of former strength and conditioning coach for the Baltimore Ravens, one has to think he is continuing to take that area of his maturity seriously.

Saunders is praised for stepping into his throws, reading defenses, and being accurate after working the pocket well. It all sounds like good fundamentals that can lead to big production as he had in his prep years.

What will be interesting is to see how much it can translate immediately as the Aztecs quarterback room is currently led by Jayden Denegal rehabbing after non shoulder surgery. No doubt Coach Lewis and the program have faith he will return better than before.

However, rumblings of QB2 Bert Emanuel Jr. possibly switching positions up to a more active receiver could mean a bigger chance Saunders gets a real chance to compete. And that is what it’s all about. Will the Aztecs bring in an additional QB in this years portal to present 3 players to go at it?

In the end, it will always be about competition and who can take command of Lewis’ offense the best. With Saunders pedigree and potential as a pure throwing QB, it will be something to watch for when Spring ball hits.
