Confirmed Friday were the reports that San Diego State’s newly acquired guard Nick Anderson has suffered a season ending leg injury and would not take part in the upcoming 2026-2027 basketball season for San Diego.

Nick Anderson the senior transfer from Rice University is a Houston native listed at 6’3″ 195 lbs and just finished his senior season with the Owls near his hometown. At Rice last season he averaged 15.5 points per game, shooting 43% from the field, 40% from behind the three point line and 81% from the free throw line.

Confirmed reports by SDUT’s beat writer Mark Zeigler, are that Anderson likely tore both ACL and meniscus.

It’s a setback for Anderson who had proven himself up the different ranks of college basketball levels and was looking to make a deep run with a consistent winner like the Aztecs. In return it’s a tough blow for SDSU—those numbers and the proven performance by Anderson were a lot to be excited about for the Aztecs.

Prior to today’s news, Dutcher & staff are on record stating they are continuing to search for one more wing player in the portal/overseas. With the widening talent pool stretching overseas and the recent additions of three European players, the door is wide open in which direction the staff could go.

More details to come on how the Anderson injury affects his eligibility and if will be aiming to return for SDSU in the future.
