It’s a sign of the times where even the most storied and conservative sports programs in the nation have tapped into this jersey sponsorship revenue. Today was the Aztecs turn.
San Diego State unveiled their first ever jersey sponsorship patch on a #1 football jersey on Monday to open up their game day press conferences. The proud patch sponsorship belongs to that of Palomar Insurance.
The deal is reportedly a multi-year partnership with Palomar Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLMR) (“Palomar”) according to goaztecs.com. No financial details were given at the moment, however JD Wicker detailed yes the revenues will go towards the football program specifically.

There’s a lot to like about the partnership as it underscores the importance of building together with local businesses that feature alumni that share a passion for Aztecs football, as well as the greater San Diego community.
JD Wicker spoke how when it came to the search of this jersey patch opportunity, the school wanted to approach those businesses and supporters that were already in the fold, supporting the program already.
Palomar has shown a tremendous interest in football and this partnership makes their branding & mission even more visible to the sports community. Just days ahead of the opening kickoff this Saturday, September 5 at Snapdragon Stadium, the official partnership was certainly something that was painstakingly considered until the very end.
Palomar Insurance according to the official announcement, had already agreed upon a partnership with SDSU in a different capacity, was named SDSU Athletics’ Official Specialty Insurance Partner and Official Volunteerism Partner.
No financials or exact terms were given during this announcement, however JD Wicker and Eric Judson of JMI Sports, who hold exclusive multimedia and corporate sponsorship rights to the Aztecs, verified that this is just the beginning when it comes to more teams sports on the Mesa.
For SDSU as other college sports programs, there are multiple opportunities not just for game day jerseys, but practice gear as well. Only time will tell just how far they go, in order to gain ground in the revenue channels out there.
