I’m super critical when it comes to Offensive Lineman. Laakea is raw and there is a lot to like. First of all, i watched his videos with a lot of intent being our first lineman commitment of this 2022 class. Immediately his aggressiveness jumped off the screen. This kid you can tell he’s got that bully attitude you can’t teach. He plays kind of high and he may have grown. The tape we watched was from his sophomore year perhaps. He had pretty good hip bend when he focused in on it, but he played at a powerhouse team in St Louis School. There are things to work on but to me he seems more like a Right Guard who can take over for Billy Dunkle when he graduates.

I got a DM from Laakea asking who could he contact to get his recruiting going here at SDSU. So i checked 247 and seen he’s got some legit offers his way. I knew he was serious. So i sent his info to every coach you could imagine. I didnt hear back for a while so then he reached out again for updated info. and he eventually ended up getting in contact. As soon as that happened he started getting attention from many other schools. But even while he was getting offered elsewhere he always was showing San Diego State a lot of love.
He’s a really big kid and there’s some rawness to his game. I can see him at the Right Tackle spot honestly. I think he’s a kid we are lucky to get because he loves SDSU. This is one who really wanted to be an Aztec!
