After a tough low scoring victory for the Aztecs over Hawaii, we were worried they may be penalized unfairly by the College Football Playoff Committee, due to the level of competition. But with so many teams winning or losing last week that were in direct impact of helping us move forward, the Aztecs now find themselves at the #22 spot in the rankings!

This week’s opponent is perhaps the most challenging but not the only challenge left for the Aztecs this season. We will certainly need another string of games to go in our favor to maintain our foothold and combined with an SDSU victory, the Red & Black could see a BIG jump in the rankings. Here are all the games you need to pay attention to as a die hard Aztecs fan!

Check out this week’s Sons of Montezuma Podcast with our SDSU vs Nevada Preview!

THURSDAY

#21 Pittsburgh vs North Carolina 4:30P ESPN
This should be like UNC’s game vs Wake.  An absolute shootout.  UNC can definitely beat Pitt and it will greatly enhance our chances of moving up the rankings with the Panthers out of our way!

FRIDAY

#5 Cincinnati @ South Florida 3P ESPN2
I think Cincy is starting to feel some pressure and every game is going to be a nail biter from here on out for them. Could they blow it down the stretch and open up a spot for a different G-5 team like ourselves?

Boise State vs Wyoming Fri 6P FS1
Go Broncos. We need them potatoes fat & juicy when we mash them up after Thanksgiving.

SATURDAY

#2 Alabama vs NMSU 9A SECN
C’mon Aggies!  Lulz The unofficial Mountain West Conference member is going to make a killing off this game.

#6 Michigan @ Penn State 9A ABC
Penn State lost a tough one to Ohio State.  They are more than capable of beating an overrated Michigan team–especially in Happy Valley.

#17 Auburn vs Mississippi State 9A ESPN
Auburn is up and down and Mississippi State is a scrappy team.  This could be an upset that is a big help for us by knocking Auburn down a tier.

#18 Wisconsin vs  Northwestern 9A ESPN2
Wisconsin is rolling so this is a big ask, but if Northwestern can turn it into a street fight…you never know.

#24 Utah @ Arizona 11A P12N
We need Utah to continue to win to pad our resume with a Top 25 win.  Luckily they play AZ so its a pretty solid shot.

#1 Georgia @ Tennessee 12:30P CBS
Tennessee has been playing better as of late, so maybe they can pull off the miracle and upset #1 in Knoxville.

#20 Iowa vs Minnesota 12:30P BTN
I don’t think either of these teams belong ahead of us. I see them both being at about the same level.  Minnesota can absolutely get the job done and knockout Iowa.

#7 Michigan State vs Maryland 1P Fox
Michigan State is reeling from their upset at the hands of Purdue and showed trouble defending the pass.  Maryland is going to throw the ball like 50 times.  This is a long shot but not out of the question.

Air Force @ Colorado State 4P CBSSN
Go Falcons! Pad our strength of schedule.

#9 Notre Dame @ Virginia 4:30P ABC
Notre Dame is, as usual, incredibly overrated.  Virginia can put up some serious points.  I like the chances for a VA upset in this one.

#10 Oklahoma State vs TCU 5P Fox
OK State is limited offensively and TCU seems to have rallied behind their interim coach.  Another game with big upset potential.

#3 Oregon vs Washington State 7:30P ESPN
Oregon can be had and Washington State beat up on ASU last week.  This is somewhat of a rivalry game as well, so…

Utah State @ San Jose State 7:30P FS1
I believe we’ve reached the point we need to start rooting for Utah State to make the CCG.  They’ll have the record that will look the best on paper if we face them in a prospective CCG.
