Below we give the official list of who is transferring out of the SDSU program, as compiled through 247.com and individual players announcements via social media most times.
The transfer portal is officially open. Oh joy.
Just hours before this countdown San Diego State received a few more notifications of players who will be entering the portal and needless to say, the floodgates are open.
The elephant in the room just made it official. Trey White has entered into the portal and out of SDSU’s program.
Trey White
San Diego State star edge Trey White intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per an ESPN source. He’s a two-time first-team All-Mountain West player. He’s compiled 29 TFLs and 19.5 sacks over the last two years. pic.twitter.com/KNcPtu03MX

The 6’2″ 255 lb Edge rusher was a huge component of the Aztecs defense the last few years. Earning national praise last year as CFB’s sack leader most of the year, Trey helped keep SDSU football back into the public’s consciousness in a positive way.
The Eastlake High alum spent a while longer to make his decision final when compared to others on the SDSU roster. No doubt a longer look into which other CFB teams would be interested in his services, but also if the NFL was a real player in all of this.
For White the move without a doubt sets him up for a big payday. Though Nebraska seems like the logical fit, in our sit down interview with White he glowingly spoke of other California programs that he wanted to be recruited from immediately out of high school.
Whichever school receives White’s final senior season will be getting a tough nosed, very athletic, pass rusher but also a bit of a tweener. His leadership and passion for the game will be a welcomed addition to whichever defensive unit he contributes to. And that is the key word, contributes.
The risk here with White is wether the team he ventures off to will give him the same priority that SDSU had in their scheme. No doubt a Power conference team will want White and the QB sack production he brings. But his eventual NFL draft stock may be enhanced on making the right choice for himself in terms of coach compatibility, defensive scheme, etc.
For the Aztecs this most certainly confirms what we all dreaded: a total defensive rebuild. Just as much as last years defensive unit banded together to attend SDSU one final season—this mass exodus also shows how attractive the thought of this years defense had to fight for each other. That fight is now officially over.
Demetrius Sumler, newly named Defenseive Coordinator will need to align with SDSU GM Caleb Davis and HC Sean Lewis and devise a new strategy for picking up portal players on the defense. It will be a tough task and Sumler will absolutely need time & grace to rebuild what is now a shell of the Nation’s top-10 defensive units.
Dalesean Staley
With one last season of eligibility available, Dalesean Staley is also out the door. The Northern Iowa transfer to SDSU must be feeling good about the prospect of playing at an elevated price tag because that has to be the only reason for this move.
Yes SDSU shouldn’t begrudgen any player that leaves if they’d already came in from another school to begin with. But the jump from Northern Iowa to SDSU is a big one. The next leap for Staley will be just as much. He played very tough with 76 tackles on the team which was excellent. This will be an interesting one to see where he lands.

Ben Scolari
WR Ben Scolari enters the portal after redshirting his first season on the Mesa in 2024. Not seeing much action this season perhaps made this decision come about. Either way, we are sad to not be able to hold trash talk over Nevada fans for signing Scolari to SDSU considering his family ties to that program. But SDSU is out of the Mountain West now. Perhaps Scolari returns to his legacy University and makes some good noise there? Would be pretty cool if so for the young man.
Hunter Haines
Hunter Haines we hardly knew you. The Washington State transfer perhaps could’ve had playing time with such a defensive rebuild this next season. But this one is a head scratcher as to was he asked to leave or if he sets out another change for his future.
After much prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with 3 yrs of eligibility remaining. I want to thank San Diego State University for the opportunity to keep doing what I love. Excited to see what’s next! pic.twitter.com/bLG3I07k6v

Sidney Dupuy
Another defensive edge has entered. Dupuy a 6’5″ freshman from Cathedral Catholic is gone after just one season in the program. Just a head scratcher. Out of high school Dupuy chose the Aztecs over Boise State, Colorado State, Hawaii, Montana State, Nevada, San Jose State, UNLV, Washington State and Wyoming. Not exactly seeing how he can elevate himself out of that lineup unless he has the inside track elsewhere. Sometimes it’s just not a fit apparantly.
Tiumalu Afalava
Defensive Lineman, Afalava was a CAL transfer to SDSU two years ago and is on his way out again. He is listed mostly on the practice squad that first year and didn’t record any stats for this season.
Jeremiah Tuiileila
Jeremiah a big 6’3″ LB who didn’t log any time as a true freshman heads out of the program.
