Few rising high school prospects in San Diego have seen their recruiting profile grow like Cathedral Catholic WR Isaac Cook. The Class of 2027 standout has quickly developed into one of Southern California’s premier playmakers and just this past weekend has committed his future to join the Sons of Montezuma at San Diego State.
Cook’s rise has been fueled by production on the field and a steady approach to the recruiting process. After entering his junior season without a scholarship offer, everything changed following a breakout campaign that saw him surpass 1,300 receiving yards while helping Cathedral Catholic make a deep postseason run.
Standing at 6’1″ and 185 lbs officially, Cook nabbed 54 receptions for 1,351 yards and 13 TDs. The Dons were a #1 ranked team in the San Diego Union-Tribune poll. They ultimately reached the CIF State Championship at Saddleback College, before falling to the Folsom Bulldogs.
After prayers and talks with family,I am pleased to announce that I have decided to stay close to home and commit to San Diego State University. Thank you to SDSU coaching staff for believing in me and thank you God for this amazing opportunity. #AGTG, #SDSU pic.twitter.com/9TJOlTSepR

In the wake of that performance his first offer came from Sean Lewis and San Diego State, a moment that proved to be a turning point in his recruitment. The Aztecs have secured his hard commitment from among others like Boise State, CAL-Berkeley, and Colorado State just to name a few.
The talented receiver, is currently a top-10 wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting class. But rather than focusing on scholarship offers, Cook said his goal was simply to prove himself. To do that it took plenty of patience and determination.
“Going into my junior year, I wasn’t really thinking offers. I was really trying to prove myself to coaches,” Cook said in a recent interview of the The Jump Podcast. “Midway, I got my first offer from SDSU and I was blessed to have that.”
At 1,300-plus yards as a junior, Cook has already established himself as one of Southern California’s most productive receivers. His confidence is evident when discussing his upcoming senior season, where he has set an ambitious target to top himself.
“Expect a lot of one-hand catches, a lot of tweak outs,” Cook said. “I’m trying to go for 2,000 yards and more.”
Beyond the numbers, Cook’s outlook into why San Diego State became such an attractive destination is music to our ears. Family, proximity to home, and genuine relationships with coaches ranked among his highest priorities going into the process.
He repeatedly emphasized the importance of finding a coaching staff that develops players both on and off the field, values that align closely with the culture the Aztecs have sought to build.
The San Diego native has also been gracious about his hometown and the support system that has helped shape his development. Growing up in a football-rich environment and competing at Cathedral Catholic has provided a foundation that he believes will prepare him for the next level.
For San Diego State, Cook represents more than just another local recruiting win. He brings proven production, big-play ability, and a competitive mindset to the 2027 class. If his junior-year numbers are any indication, the Aztecs may be securing one of the most explosive pass-catching prospects to emerge from San Diego in recent years.
