The next transfer portal move to officially signed on with San Diego State this week is on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback, Jason Oliver from Sacramento State is officially now an Aztec.
Oliver might just be the signature kind of pickup SDSU GM Caleb Davis and HC Sean Lewis is looking for these days. He’s experienced, physical, has a chip on the shoulder from a smaller FCS program and should benefit greatly from DC Demetrius Sumler’s specific coaching of the corners.
By the numbers, Oliver stands at 6-foot, 175-pounds. In the 2025 season he recorded 36 tackles & 2 INTs this year as an all-Big Sky CB. Recorded an 81.4 PFF grade and held WRs to a 41.9% catch rate.
Oliver first signed as a 3-star recruit to the Colorado Buffalo’s. There he appeared in all 12 games as a true freshman. But after Coach Prime came in and cleaned house, Oliver then transferred out to Sacramento State. Interestingly he redshirted his first season there with the Hornets in 2023.
In 2024 he played in seven games as a cornerback, but increased his production greatly last year in his junior season. That’s when new head coach, at the time, Brennan Marion took over. The Hornets flipped a 3-9 record in 2024, to a successful 7-5 year in 2025.
Now in Oliver’s 2026 senior season it will be crucial for him to bring his best, as he aims to fill one of the many spots in the Aztecs secondary. SDSU will need the experience and winning attitude he can bring.
The Aztecs 4-2-5 defense demands a lot from it’s players and no doubt Oliver will be relied upon to learn fast. Oliver should be up to the task as he was named honorable mention all-Big Sky last season, appeared in a reliable all 12 games and led the team with eight pass breakups.
