The Aztecs have a big need at all the secondary positions this upcoming season. They’ve made a selection in safety, Jalen Thomeson of the Ohio Bobcats.
Thomeson stands at 5’11” 180 lbs and will be entering his true senior season as an Aztec, after spending all of his previous seasons in the MAC.
Ohio University finished their season with a successful 9-4 season and 6-2 in conference, that earned them tied for 2nd in the MAC. The Bobcats finished #4 in scoring defense last year and Thomeson played in 13 games—finishing with 86 tackles, including 10 solo, one tackle for loss, 1 INT, and 1 fumble recovery for a TD.

The end of the year saw Ohio defeat a high tempo offense in UNLV, 17-10 in the Frisco Bowl. So let’s not take their defense for granted all you Mountain West apologists. The Bobcats have won a lot of games these past few seasons and Thomeson grew up within that development.
Thomeson is another one of those mature players that the Aztecs will be banking on to learn quick, play smart, and be physical in his assignments. Whether it’s helping to stop the run or be that last man in coverage on a deep route, Thomeson will have the attitude to bring the wood in this Aztecs defense.
A converted RB out of high school, Thomeson was part of a high school team that won 3 straight state titles in his hometown of Indiana. This could be a very sneaky good pickup by SDSU GM Caleb Davis & staff yet again.
