Height/Weight: 6’8” / 330 lbs

2025 marks the year that Aztec Nation will get to see coveted transfer offensive lineman, Joseph Borjon. The 6’8″ 330 lb guard came in from Arizona Wildcat program last season with coach Sean Lewis and the overhauled staff.

But unfortunately an early torn ACL in his left leg, Borjon’s true effectiveness for this offense was sidelined for the whole year. Now with the long and challenging road of rehab behind him, Joe is back in position to compete for a starting role in this AztecFast 2.0 style.

Borjon can be that force that helps show that improvement. No doubt he stands out as a powerful presence on the offensive line. Likely at one of the guard spots, Borjon has a perceived advantage of having a lot of film time during his rehab.

The ability to have a birds eye view of the offense in season is never the desired perspective for a guy who really wants to be in the trenches. But occasionally it can be a blessing in disguise for a young and eager athlete and the program who possibly can benefit from a more mature and well rounded guy, who is coming in hungry to compete again.

Borjon is already coming in with playing experience as an Arizona Wildcat in the previous iteration of the Pac-12, so he is certainly not wide-eyed. He plays with a stout base and generates consistent push in run-blocking situations.

He’s built like a prototypical interior mauler and with strong hands & a wide frame he should be hard to move off his spot in pass protection. His Arizona team ranked fairly well in their passing game while he was on the field—so there may be some all around ability there to be optimistic.

The biggest question marks at this point will likely be his speed-to-power transitions and how he allows his mind to trust his body after the injury. Football is that mix between the physical and the mental. If Joe can come in with an attack mindset free of any mental blockages, it could mean really good things for the Aztecs offense and really bad things for opposing defenses.

If Borjon is not a starter immediately on the line to start the season, that shouldn’t show cause for alarm either. The added depth in the O-Line for Lewis’ offense should allow for him to regain his feel. It would be a fine time to serve as a key rotational piece on the offensive line as he builds familiarity.

But with SDSU wanting that tempo-heavy offense, and seeing the much more physically mature quarterbacks, it may really feed into his strength in the run game. The flexibility Lewis will have to make Borjon a valuable asset in both short-yardage situations and base formations should definitely get him on the field often.

Contributing to solidifying a unit that will be tasked with protecting QB Jayden Denegal & Bert Emmanuel Jr. as well as clearing space for RBs Lucky Sutton and Christian Washington is the #1 focus for this offense. As he gains comfort with the pace and communication demands of the scheme, Borjon has the chance to emerge as a stabilizing force for the linemen around him.
